Knit.cool is operated by Nataliia Totska. This page explains what personal data the app collects, why, and what rights you have over it under the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
What we collect, and why
- Account data — your email address, and either a password or your Google account identifier if you sign in with Google. Used to let you log in and keep your account secure. Legal basis: necessary to provide the service you signed up for.
- Billing data — if you subscribe to Premium, Stripe (our payment processor) handles and stores your card details; we never see or store your card number. We keep your subscription status and billing history (e.g. monthly/annual, active/cancelled) to manage your plan. Legal basis: necessary to provide the paid service, and to meet invoicing/tax obligations.
- Occasional emails — we may email you a handful of times a year (a few times at most) to let you know about new features. Legal basis: legitimate interest, since it's about the service you already use, not third-party marketing. You can opt out any time by emailing us.
What we don't collect
Your knitting patterns, grid designs, and garment-calculator projects are never uploaded to our servers. They live only in your browser (so they're tied to that device/browser, not your account) and in whatever files you choose to download (PNG, SVG, BMP, JSON). We don't use analytics or advertising trackers, and the only cookies/local storage we use are the ones strictly needed to keep you logged in and remember your last project.
Who else processes your data
We use two service providers to run Knit.cool: Supabase (database, authentication) and Stripe (payment processing). Both are established providers used widely across the EU and rely on appropriate safeguards (such as Standard Contractual Clauses) for any data processed outside the EEA. We don't sell or share your data with anyone else.
How long we keep it
We keep your account data for as long as your account exists. Billing records may be kept longer where we're legally required to (e.g. tax law).
Your rights
You can access or correct your data, object to how it's used, or ask for a copy of it at any time by emailing us. You can delete your account and all data tied to it yourself, at any time, from the account menu in the app — this also immediately cancels any active subscription. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the Austrian data protection authority (Österreichische Datenschutzbehörde, dsb.gv.at).
